Rendered homes have been “in” for a while, and it’s easy to see why.
Modern street appeal, fire-protection, durability, insulation – there’s a lot to like about this external finish.
So, what steel lintels should you be using in your build to support this type of application?
Galintel’s solution: our state-of-the-art Rendabar – designed & manufactured in Australia is the only product of its kind in Australia (yes, you read that right).
“Rendering is still very popular, particularly around coastal areas or for people that want to have a coloured home rather than exposed brickwork,” Galintel Business Development Manager Pernell Briggs said.
“If you’re looking for a render application, our Rendabar is perfect for your build. You can use it to support your bricks or blocks above openings and also render to it. It really is one of a kind!”
HOW THE RENDABAR WORKS
Our Rendabar is a load-bearing lintel made using Australian BlueScope steel and manufactured and hot-dip galvanised by us.
The reason it’s so unique is because of its multi-ribbed profile that has been designed specifically to facilitate a strong bond between cement rendering and brickwork.
“The bond between mortar, brickwork and lintel forms a composite beam to support brickwork over openings, similar to our Solid Base Angles. However, the unique thing about our Rendabar is that you can render over it so you can actually apply render to the bottom surface easily,” Mr Briggs said.
“The platform leg provides a wide base of support for brickwork and a generous keying area for cement rendering.”
Mr Briggs said the alternative would be returning to old-school methods of chicken wire wrap to attract the render, which was not ideal or convenient for builders.
“Ours already has the unique ribbed profile on the bottom and side of it, which makes it easier for render to adhere to the lintel and for builders to get a quality finish,” Mr Briggs said.
By hot-dip galvanising the lintel, end-users also get the benefit of an R3 rating and knowing the product will last the test of time.
BONUS: FIRE PROTECTION
Another important point to note is that Galintel’s Rendabar is the only steel lintel in Australia that has a fire rating.
“Steel on its own is not fire-rated, however with the addition of cement render applied to it, the lintel is protected from direct flames preventing or at worst delaying the chance of the lintel to collapse, warp or twist under in a fire,” Mr Briggs said.
This, therefore, provides an extra layer of protection for your home or commercial building, and that added peace of mind.
The product has been rigorously tested by Unisearch Limited (the research development company of the University of New South Wales), and has ABSAC and CSIRO’s seal of approval, too.
“This not only makes it an attractive option for residential builds but also for facilities such as childcare centres, retirement homes, hospitals, and anywhere else where people might not be able to get out in a hurry in the event of a fire,” Mr Briggs said.
